History.

The first airport in Astrakhan was founded in 1936. The first airway was Moscow-Astraknan-Moscow. During the II World War the airport of Astrakhan had played a  strategic role because it had provided fuel and technical service for airplanes doing to the front. In 1945 passenger and cargo traffic had experienced a significant rise because the airport "Stalinskiy" was transfered to the possession of civil aviation. In 1963 new airport was built and in 1978 new runway and terminal were put into comission.

Today.

In 2008 the first period of reconstruction of the airport has been finished. The terminal was modified, the runway was repaired throughoutly, the business and VIP lounge were totally renovated and the territory was equiped with modern amenities. Passenger traffic is about 200 000 people.

Future.

In the begiining of 2009 the master plan of the airport's development will be presented to the board of directors and the amout of investments will be precised.
